A gigamap exploring access, inequity, and systemic influence.

This project visualizes the complex system of factors influencing sexual and reproductive health outcomes for low-income women in Tennessee. Using a gigamapping approach, it brings together extensive research across healthcare access, policy, education, and socioeconomic conditions, translating fragmented data into a cohesive and navigable visual framework. The process involved collecting and categorizing large amounts of information, identifying key relationships, and structuring them into interconnected layers that guide the viewer through the system while maintaining a holistic view.

The final map functions as a tool for understanding rather than simplification, revealing how overlapping factors contribute to inequities and where opportunities for intervention may exist. By making complexity visible and accessible, the project demonstrates the role of design as a means of sense-making—helping audiences understand not just individual issues, but the broader systems that shape them.

Based on the findings, an intervention in the form of a flyer was produced to change the tone of the conversation surrounding sexual health in Tennessee through religious leaders.
